Greenon Local Schools is excited to announce the appointment of John Jewell as the district's new 7-12 Principal, following approval by the Greenon Board of Education on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
Mr. Jewell brings nearly two decades of educational experience and a deep understanding of the Greenon community to his new role. He has served as Greenon Elementary's K-6 Assistant Principal since 2023, where he has been instrumental in strengthening the school's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, supporting student achievement and behavior, and building positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
"John has demonstrated a student-first mindset and a genuine commitment to supporting both our staff and families," said Superintendent Darrin Knapke. "His leadership, experience across multiple grade levels, and strong relationships throughout our district make him an outstanding choice to lead our 7-12 building. We are excited to see the positive impact he will continue to make in this new role."
Before joining the elementary administrative team, Jewell served in several roles within Greenon Local Schools, including K-12 Intervention Specialist, Alternative Learning Center Coordinator, Intervention Specialist, and Social Studies teacher. His experience has provided him with an understanding of student learning, behavior supports, and school operations from elementary through high school.
Jewell has more than 18 years of experience in education and over 20 years of coaching and leadership experience. He earned his K-12 Principal Licensure from Wright State University, a Master of Science in Special Education from Western Governors University, and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Social Studies and Bible from Kentucky Christian University.
Throughout his career, Jewell has been recognized for his collaborative leadership style, dedication to student success, and ability to build impactful relationships with students and staff. His experience across elementary, middle, and high school settings positions him to lead the Greenon Jr. and Sr. High campus.
Jewell officially takes on the role of 7-12 Principal as Greenon Local Schools prepares to welcome students and staff for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.
