Dear Greenon Local Schools Community,
As the end of the school year approaches, I want to thank our students, families and staff for an excellent year. I appreciate all the hard work that has gone into making this a successful year for our students here at Greenon.
With the end of each year comes a mountain of data, grades and test results for our staff to pore over and we love to see our students make progress there.
But it’s also a chance to marvel at the ways our students have grown that can’t be tested or measured. A new talent uncovered, a love of reading discovered or a sense of confidence that wasn’t there in August; each is a success that deserves celebrating.
We will soon begin preparing for the 2013-14 school year and many important decisions must be made. The failure of the bond issue in May means we will not be able to take up the state’s guaranteed offer of $13.3 million toward construction and renovation of our buildings but the facilities still have many needs that must be addressed.
The repairs and maintenance needed to keep our buildings safe require us to make some tough choices to cut expenses. The board will be moving forward this year with plans to consolidate our buildings in 2014-15 to be more efficient and save money. We will be diligent in our efforts to engage the community about this and other changes and to communicate the district’s plans to taxpayers, students, parents and staff.
I hope everyone has a fun and safe summer and look forward to seeing you in August for another great school year!
