Greenon Selects New Elementary Principal

Mr. Jake Fitzgerald comes to the district from Greenville Schools, where he is an assistant elementary principal.Mr. Jake Fitzgerald will be the first Principal of the new Greenon Elementary, opening in the fall of 2021.
“Mr. Fitzgerald brings an enthusiasm for teaching and learning and a passion for building a positive school culture that will be an asset in the leadership team at the new Greenon School K-12 Campus,” said Greenon Superintendent Mr. Darrin Knapke. “His philosophy of data-driven decision-making and ability to build positive connections with staff, students, and families set him apart in the field of candidates for the position.”
Mr. Fitzgerald was selected by a hiring committee that included administrators, teachers, and staff for the position of K-6 Greenon Elementary Principal. He will fill the position vacated by Mrs. Sarah Chivington, who will serve as the district’s Special Education Director and assist Mr. Fitzgerald in his new role. The Greenon Board of Education voted June 17, 2021, on a recommendation to hire Mr. Fitzgerald.
Greenon Elementary and Greenon Junior/Senior High School make up the new Greenon Schools K-12 Campus, opening this fall at the northeast corner of Rebert Pike and Enon-Xenia Road. The new school was constructed through a funding partnership between Greenon and the state’s Ohio School Facilities Commission, with the state paying about 33 percent of the basic costs of construction. When it opens in September, the campus will be home to kindergarten through 12th grade.  
“I am excited for the privilege of leading Greenon Elementary and grateful for the opportunity to join the district at such an exciting time,” said Mr. Fitzgerald. “I’m looking forward to getting to know the staff, students, families, and community, and can’t wait to welcome everyone to the beautiful new Greenon Schools Campus this fall.”
Mr. Fitzgerald began his career in education in 2014 as a third grade teacher at Concord Elementary in Troy. In 2020, he became the assistant principal of Greenville Elementary, where he developed and implemented COVID-19 procedures, evaluated staff, led Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports initiatives, and fostered continuity between grade levels.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Grace College and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Miami University.
