In what was expected to be a rebuilding year after saying goodbye to a number of starters in the Class of 2021, the Greenon Knights finished 10-3-1 overall.
"Each season brings its own unique set of challenges," said Varsity Head Coach Jeff Nickles. "I'd say one of our biggest obstacles to overcome after graduating ten seniors was inexperience. There was a real learning curve for who to play where, what to do situationally with some players, etc. And lots of credit goes to the seniors who really taught and pushed and drove the younger members of the squad. We had a lot of 'gritty but not pretty' games, as the seniors would say, but at the end of the day, the players produced results. If you had told me in August that by the end of the season we'd be 10-3-1 with a fourth consecutive OHC title, I'm not sure I would have believed you, but here we are. The team just refused to give up."
The Knights secured a first round 1-0 victory over West-Liberty Salem in the OHSAA tournament to advance to Round 2.
Congratulations, Knights, on a fantastic season!
