Greenon Announces Ribbon Cutting and Open House Date for New K-12 Campus
Posted on 07/15/2021
The district invites community members to the ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at the new Greenon Schools K-12 Campus, 510 Enon-Xenia Drive, Enon; a Community Open House will follow until 5 p.m. Greenon Schools will celebrate the opening of its new K-12 Campus with a ribbon cutting ceremony and community open house beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, 2021.
The new Greenon Schools K-12 Campus will open as the new school for all Kindergarten through 12th Grade Greenon Knights on the first day of school on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
“The opening of this incredible new educational facility is an exciting time not just for our staff and students, but for the entire Greenon community,” said Superintendent Mr. Darrin Knapke. “Without our supportive community, this initiative would not be possible, and we look forward to sharing this experience with everyone who is part of Greenon Schools.”
The Greenon Schools K-12 Campus is a funding partnership between the district and the state’s Ohio Facilities Construction Commission. In May 2017, voters approved a $36 million bond issue to fund the local portion of the project; the state contributed 33 percent of the basic costs, or about $14.6 million.
The architect for the project is SHP Leading Design and the Construction Manager At-Risk is Summit Construction. The 198,997-square-foot building features two new gymnasiums, state-of-the-art science labs, top-notch VoAg space, and separate entrances for parent drop-off, buses, and student drivers.
Kindergarten through 6th grade classrooms occupy Greenon Elementary, the southern wing of the building with dedicated elementary spaces for music, gym, and art. Seventh through 12th grade students are located in the northeastern Greenon Junior/Senior High wing. Shared cafeteria space is partitioned off during the school day and can be opened up to host large events after hours.
The new school is located on the northeast corner of Rebert Pike and Enon-Xenia Road, at the site of the former Indian Valley Intermediate School. A third gymnasium on the new campus was preserved from Indian Valley Intermediate, which was abated and demolished over the summer. Athletic facilities will remain at 3950 South Tecumseh Road, the site of the former Greenon High School, with a shuttle bus transporting students from the school to after school athletic practices. Greenon High School will be abated and demolished in early fall after the new campus opens.
“As we prepare to open a new school for the children of Enon, Mad River Township, and Green Township, we can see both our rich history full of tradition and a bright future on the horizon for our community,” said Mr. Knapke. “We hope to see everyone on August 29 for our celebration of all that Greenon Schools has accomplished in the past and all that we have to look forward to ahead.”
The day will begin with a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. at the front of the school, located at 510 Enon-Xenia Road, Enon. Immediately following the ribbon cutting ceremony, the building will be open for community members to walk through until 5 p.m.
A virtual walkthrough of the new building will be shared online the week of August 30 for community members who cannot attend. Please continue to visit for more information about the new campus and the district.
